Over 35 years ago, two men sat down in a booth at Yesterday’s Restaurant & Tavern in Five Points and devised a plan to increase the visibility of Five Points’ businesses on St. Patrick’s Day when most people were leaving town for Savannah, Georgia. The annual St. Pat’s in Five Points emerged, forming a family-fun festival benefiting children’s charities in the Midlands. St. Pat’s welcomes nearly 40,000 attendees each year and has a $6 million economic impact on the City of Columbia. The net proceeds enable the Five Points Association to continue beautification projects, events and marketing for the community and the privilege to give back to the community donating an average of $40,000 each year to charities of the Midlands.
